LinkedIn Profile Preparation Checklist

Hi, I’m Yevhen from Grinfi.io
I work with B2B lead generation via LinkedIn and have seen tons of profiles – great ones, poor ones, and some that are just confusing. A profile isn’t just a resume. It’s your personal landing page, and it either opens the door to quality connections – or closes it.
So here’s a checklist on how to set up your profile so that it actually sells and works for you.
1. Profile Photo
What it should look like:
- Portrait style (face + shoulders, centered in the frame)
- Looking directly into the camera
- Neutral or branded background
- Absolutely no sunglasses, hats, selfies in cars, or with the sea behind you
- A light, friendly smile – or a full-on “32-teeth” smile
2. Cover Image
Should include:
- Your company’s brand colors
- Company logo
- Your unique value proposition
This is a huge banner that catches the eye. It should contain a message that explains how you can help or a call to action that tells visitors what you do. Not using it means you’re wasting valuable communication space. One short message might just grab the attention of the right person.
3. Headline (the line under your name)
Consists of 3 parts:
- Your position and company name
- Example: COO at Grinfi.io
- What you do / how you’re helpful (don’t repeat the cover)
- “Helping B2B companies generate leads via LinkedIn”
- A current lead-gen goal or activity
- “Reach out to get a proposal” or “📍 June 28 – speaking at the SaaS Forum | Let’s connect”
This isn’t just for your title. It’s your elevator pitch. Within 2 seconds, a visitor should understand:
- Who you are
- How you’re helpful
- What’s currently relevant

4. About Section
What to write:
- Your expertise and how you help clients
- The processes where you’re the key person (founder, head of department, etc.)
- The results your clients get
- Contact info and a link to your booking page (e.g., Calendly)
This isn’t a biography. No one cares when you started your career. They care about how you can help them now.
Say it simply and offer a clear way to connect right away.
5. Featured Section
What to pin here:
- Case studies (how you solved a client’s problem)
- Videos or presentations
- Event participation
- Comments on industry-relevant articles
In sales, social proof is everything. Here, you show that:
- People read you
- People quote you
- People listen to you
This builds subconscious trust and positions you as an expert.

6. Experience
What matters:
- Don’t list “Sales” roles if you’re in sales. Pick a different, less salesy title.
- In the description, include:
- What the company does
- What value it provides to clients
- Your role (focus on outcomes)
- To maintain consistency, use the same experience description across team members
When someone sees “Sales” in a title, they immediately think: “This guy’s gonna sell me something.” Often, they won’t accept the connection. On average, profiles with sales titles get 8–12% lower conversion.
We’re not hiding the sale – we’re creating the right first impression.
It’s common to use one shared description across a whole department or company. Many teams write a unified text for all profiles that will be used for lead generation.

7. Skills and Recommendations
How to structure it:
- Choose relevant skills
- Ask friends or colleagues (not strangers) to endorse them
- Keep the most important ones at the top
- Collect testimonials from clients
Endorsed skills are like likes – but for expertise. Also, verified skills increase LinkedIn’s trust in you and reduce the risk of being flagged.
Additionally, you can add certifications and courses related to your current role or offer. This strengthens your expert positioning.
Message clients or coworkers you’ve had success with and ask for a short 2–3 sentence testimonial. It’s not hard, and it’s a huge boost for you. If you’re on good terms, you can even write the review yourself and just ask them to post it.
These testimonials can later be reused in marketing materials.
P.S.
LinkedIn is not a resume. It’s your personal landing page in the B2B lead generation world.
Set it up like a true expert profile – one people want to talk to, connect with… and buy from.
